I went to the park a few weeks ago. The duck pond there is desperately low because of the drought, but there was still a little water in it, and some rather forlorn wildlife.
Nutria are large rodents, kind of like either giant muskrats or beaver with skinny tails, that were imported from South American for their fur. Inevitably, they escaped and made themselves at home here on the Gulf Coast. The adults look a whole lot like the Rodents of Unusual Size from The Princess Bride.
The babies, though, are pretty cute.
