The fabric I was admiring for Advance 5084 (1949) was selling out so obviously I needed to order it soon. The print is directional so I assumed I'd need a little extra. I checked the yardage.
Folks, a size 16 called for 3 3/8 yards.
For this dress:
How do you get an early New Look dress out of 3 3/8 yards of fabric, you ask?
Anyway, the fabric I wanted was Cotton + Steel S.S. Bluebird. I think the soft color is good for a late-1940s dress and the ships are quirky in a way housedress prints often were, without being silly.
