Pattern Description: McCall's 6034 Annie, Too! blouse or smock dress and vest, 1978. I made the dress
Pattern Sizing: Regular misses'/women's sizing.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? No significant dislikes. I liked that it went together well.
Fabric Used: Dark red cotton homespun.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: This pattern
is from 1978 so I had to buy the size I could get, and I graded up a
size. I then did a full-bust adjustment and broad upper back adjustment
(and an incidental full-hips alteration) by increasing within the tucks
in the upper front and back bodice. This worked beautifully.
Style-wise, I shortened the front placket and changed the sleeves to
full-length, non-belled sleeves with button cuffs. I also added my own
in-seam pockets instead of using the original cut-in-one pockets.
Pattern quirk: The pattern is very much longer than it is depicted on
the envelope. I hemmed it to the line where you were supposed to apply
the second row of rick-rack, and added a separate hem facing (this is
not a complaint about the pattern; I just prefer to do scrap hem
facings, and I was a little short on my main fabric).
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I will definitely sew it again.
Conclusion: Pattern goes together well--I didn't even need to fix the sleeve caps that much--and looks just like the illustration.
