Weekend in Central Texas

Mom, Dad, and I took a road trip this weekend. It was part of Dad's Christmas. We went out to Calvert, Texas (not too far from Waco) to look at the 19th century houses.

We stayed here:
at the Hammond House bed-and-breakfast. It was built in 1876 as the intended courthouse and jail. Then Calvert lost its standing as county seat and it was just a jail, and a lock-up for mentally ill women.

More pictures here.

Since we were out that way, anyway, we went to Milano to see the bridge where Johnny Horton was killed by a drunk driver on November 4, 1960:

(What the Hell am I wearing?)

Had we gone last fall, we could have gone to the tribute concert.

I did get some more sewing done on Sunday. It turns out that 4714 is also missing its neck facing piece. Sigh:

So I fudged one. It ended up taking four rounds of sewing to get the neck facing done: One to gather the ruffle, one to fold down and hold the edges of the facing, one to baste the ruffle to the facing, and one to topstitch the whole thing into place one it was attached to the dress.

I did finally get it applied, though. Things should be easier from now on.

This has been named the Wolf in Sheep's Clothing because it turned out to be so much more trouble than it looked like it would be.
