My mom's mother used to make these. It's a common recipe, and I suspect it probably started out as a product promotion (most likely for either sweetened condensed milk or graham crackers, or both). It's definitely an Ultimate Junk Food. No nutritionally redeeming qualities whatsoever.
Our recipe card notes that chopped nuts are optional. We use pecans when we use nuts, although I've always thought chopped peanuts or even coconut would be good, too.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
9-inch square baking pan, greased or lined in parchment
18 graham crackers (the full rectangle), crushed (2320 calories)
6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips (800 calories)
1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk (1470 calories)
Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts (420 calories)
Combine everything in a bowl (the "batter" will be stiff. Well, it's not really batter, but for lack of a better word). Press into pan.
Bake for 25 minutes. DO NOT OVERBAKE or they will be like bricks.
Total calories per recipe: 4590 (no nuts) or 5010 (nuts)
Calories per brownie (1/20 of pan): We'll say 230 (no nuts) or 250 (nuts)
